I have always wanted to be able to paint beautiful flowers. So, I’ve been practicing. I painted these using my grandfather’s water colors that my mom recently sent me. Water color is one of my favorite mediums. I love the way color bleeds and and fades. I love how delicately the paint layers. It often reminds me of stained glass, and beautiful light. After playing with the paints on paper, I transferred the images to my computer and messed around with them in Photoshop, making patterns and experimenting with layers. I get so excited every time I discover new ways to play with mixed media/mediums. My mind is already swimming with ideas, and more visions of water colored flowers.
Life has gotten stressful lately. I felt a little distant from this space last month for a multitude of reasons. One being that I have been spending most of my computer time focusing on practicing in Illustrator and Photoshop. I am excited by what I have been learning, and I feel inspired as I see my work being transformed and polished through these new programs. The past month I have realized whole new possibilities in design and creativity. So while life has been more on the hectic side (this year has just been full of new challenges) I relish in having passion for art and creativity. I am grateful for new ways to explore design. Today will be spent trying to relax, photo editing, and making tacos at home. Happy Cinco de Mayo!
I designed some wallpapers for the Dress Your Tech contest on DesignLoveFest Blog this past week. It’s fun having small projects that test and push me as a learn how to work in Photoshop and Illustrator, so I kinda went out of control designing a bunch. Here are a few that I didn’t enter into the running, but I still really like and thought I’d share. I find I really like having simple messages and colorful images set as my wall paper on both my laptop and my iPad, as daily reminders of the simple things that inspire me and make me happy. (I also think the design with champagne bottles would make a cute celebration/birthday/wedding card)
I’ve been spending most of my free time this week working with Photoshop and Illustrator, and less time taking photos and drawing. I kinda get sucked in as I’m learning these new programs…but man I love having a new creative outlet, and I just want to learn it all now. I gave myself this little project yesterday. What do you think of these business card ideas? I like the bottom two, with the intent of having them printed through a letterpress and given a colored edges (hot pink/aqua?) so that they still have a pop of color. The goal is to be handing these out by May (I’ve set my Etsy Shop opening date for June 1st!) stay tuned.
I do too much online window shopping sometimes, and these are a few things I haven’t been able to get off my mind. I think there is something perfect in the simplicity of the galaxy needle point. And isn’t that Pendelton blanket ideal for fall picnicking. The giant ball of yarn is really an ottoman that I recently got and love! Also today a pair of snow boots (yes it snowed today!) I love split at the heel seem, so maybe it’s a sign I need a new pair, and it should be these boots.
